To Leash or Unleash the Spirit - Video

Discussion Questions:

What has been your exposure or experience with the Holy Spirit?

How would you describe your current relationship with the Holy Spirit?

What questions or thoughts do you have around the Spirit?

Discovery Bible Study: Acts 10:21-48

Read Acts... and answer the Discovery Bible Study Questions:

  • What do we learn about the Spirit and God from this passage?
  • What do we learn about people from this passage?
  • What do you sense God saying to you from this passage?
  • What do you sense God asking you to do in response?
  • Who can you share this story or what God said to you with?

Practices:

Mild: Listen

In your time alone with God, ask Holy Spirit to highlight or bring to mind a Scripture passage just for you today. Don't overthink it, just go with the first one that jumps out at you or comes to mind.

Medium: Listen for Others

  • In your time alone with God, ask Holy Spirit to bring a person to mind that you can bless with a word of encouragement.
  • After someone's name or face comes to mind, ask the Lord to give you a Scripture verse or a Bible character to mind for that person. Don't overthink it, just go with the first one that comes to mind.
  • Make a point of contacting the person that day (text them or write a note and mail it), letting them know that God brought them to your mind and you felt like maybe he wanted you to share that encouragement with them.

Hot: Listen for a Chance to Share

  • In your time alone with God, ask Holy Spirit to give you an opportunity to have a spiritual conversation with someone that day.
  • Ask the Lord to bring something tangible to mind that would be an indicator that this is someone God is highlighting for you to talk to, whether they're someone you know or someone you'll be meeting.
  • As you're listening, pay attention to what God brings to mind - maybe a description, maybe a color, maybe a picture of an item or a person. Don't dismiss the very first thought that comes to mind. Write it down and then pay attention throughout the day for the item or person that God placed in your mind.
  • Once you come across it/them, look for an opportunity to engage in conversation. See where it goes. Don't force anything. Just ask Holy Spirit to guide your conversation and bring anything to mind that he wants you to share or say.
  • Tell a friend or your group how the experience went!
